Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

This year we are excited about what God has in store for us. Since the founding of Victory Baptist Church we have seen several miracles which have led us to where we are today. We don’t want to get apathetic on what has already come, but we want to seek out for God to perform “Greater Works.”

The exciting promise in this verse is that Jesus said that we will do Greater Works. Does this mean we will do Greater Works than Christ? In short, No. Jesus Christ is the standard by which we live our life and our Savior by which we have eternal life. There is nothing Greater than that.

So was Christ lying when he spoke these words? Of course not. Hebrews explains to us that there are two immutable (unchanging) things regarding Christ; the first is that he gives promises and the second is that he doesn’t lie (Hebrews 6:17-18) Understanding that doctrine, what was Christ speaking of when he said we would do Greater Works? He was speaking of a few things:

1.       He was speaking of distance.
a.       Jesus Christ ministry stayed within 60 miles of his birthplace.
                                                               i.      We have a great opportunity to take the gospel to new heights and distances using:
1.       Soul-winning Ministries
2.       Missions Giving
3.       Nursing Home Ministries
2.       He was speaking of ministry
a.       Jesus Christ works we shown in Isaiah 61
                                                               i.      Preach “good” tidings – Great Commission
ii.      Bind the brokenhearted – Psalm 147:3
                                                            iii.      Proclaim
1.       Liberty – “the Truth shall set you free”
2.       Acceptable Year – NOW is the acceptable year!
3.       Vengeance – There is a hell
iv.      Opening of the Prison – Romans 8:15   “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.”
                                                             v.      Comfort all that mourn
3.       He is speaking of the Spirit
a.       We don’t do any of these works outside of the strength of the Holy Spirit.
b.      We see Paul make mention of this
                                                               i.      1 Corinthians 2:4   “And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:”

This year we are praying that we will see greater works, in distance, ministry and By His Spirit.
