1 Peter 2:2 -3 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
Every Christian must be faithful to the reading of their Bible. By saying faithful, I am not at all suggesting that it’s done purely out of duty, but out of desire to get something from His Word.
Peter likens this need to a baby’s need for milk. I have a 4 month old boy, Liam that makes this passage come to life. When he goes without his milk he becomes fussy, irritable and down-right angry and when that bottle comes his way the excitement that he shows adorable to his parent’s sight.
For a Christian, the Word of God should be something we desire with regularity. In fact, we should have some tell signs when we have been straying from God’s Word:
– Easily motivated to the flesh
– Little to no spiritual discernment
– Selfish in worship (which essentially becomes religious traditionalism)
– No growth
The Christian who seeks to gain from the Word of God will exhibit the following:
– The joy of the Lord
– Gracious growth in faith
– New found love and respect for our Lord
– Wisdom and discernment
Let us seek to please our heavenly Father with our reliance on His Word!
