Every year we celebrate the excitement of what that year may bring. We celebrate because of the hope of what could be in 2018. Hope is a powerful trait only granted by God.

Lamentations 3:18 -22 And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the LORD: This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

As students, we hope for the motivation to complete assignments, study harder and to retain the knowledge necessary to pass. As employees, we hope to find the flow to get things accomplished, find more clients and become more successful. As a spouse, we hope to unify our relationships and build a stronger home. As a Christian, we hope to grow closer to Christ while seeing God work through the prayers we lift upon to Him.

But what if those things don’t happen?

Naturally, as Christians, we will say go to God in prayer, and we should! However, remember how long Abraham had to wait for God to give him the son that was promised? Or how long the children of Israel had to wait for a freedom from Egypt? How long did the world have to wait for the Lamb of God, after his first prophecy in the book of Genesis? Furthermore, how long do we wait for the return of that Savior?

As I mentioned previously, hope is a powerful thing, however, what happens when you have to wait too long for hope can do Terrible things. “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick…”

So what must we do when we hope but must wait?

Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint.

Waiting for God plays a much different role than waiting on anything else. Waiting on God doesn’t create the same sickness in the heart because every morning we wake his mercies become renewed within our life, he nourishes our strength and gives us the ability to continue moving on.

This year, wether the things we hoped for come to fruition or not, we know we can wait on God because God is will never let us down no matter how long we wait. In 2018 let’s learn to wait on God.
