In the last couple of years our church has had several curve balls thrown our way. We moved service times, buildings and even canceled (for the moment) a Sunday Evening. Now, our church faces yet another hurdle of moving yet again. As the pastor, I think every Sunday, this is the day they all decide to find “better churches.”

Last Sunday evening I was thinking about why our people are choosing to stay with us despite these changes? As God began working on my heart, four main thoughts came to my head and encouraged me.

  1. Glorification of God. No matter the victory that we have seen these years, It comes with the full understanding that it is God who is working. From our former building, on to the new facility, to the new visitors and members who have been added to the church; God has completely orchestrated it all. When we entered our current facility many of our people congratulated me for finding a property. My honest confession; God did it. Now, as we are faced with finding a new sacred property to worship, we understand that its due to God’s Devine providence we are in this situation and it will be due to God’s grace when we move on.
  2. The Opportunity to Witness and Work. Many VBC members have said they can’t wait to be there when God plants us. Much like the crowds that gathered to see how Jesus will teach and call other followers, VBC serves as a ground floor to witness the strong hand of God and to serve him. Those that serve at VBC have the opportunity to grow something that will not only impact the individual, but families, the church and our new community.
  3. Faithfulness at Work. Our church started by Pastor Brent Strouf in 2002. In 2003, a charter was signed in the founding of VBC. According to our last Anniversary, we still have 7 regularly active families from that charter. Kids have grown up in our “tabernacles” and now serve in various roles within the church. With the new families that have join the past couple of years, we are noticing many have said, “they support our church, because this is their church!” longevity of membership isn’t the the only thing to stay but our message has been consistent throughout our existence and even more through our transitions.
  4. The Excitement of What is to Come. While this “excitement” doesn’t always seem like excitement to me personally; when I take a step back, trust the Lord and press on; I can see the anticipation swelling. Everyone has given me options for the church and has been supportive to wherever God leads; even if its to stay. That is what is bolstering our faith and love for the church God has planted us in and driving us to our knees in prayer.

While these reasons may seem as though everything is perfect, let me assure you, that is far from the truth. We have had our fair share of issues too, however every church has their own. When dealing with someone considering VBC or staying here, these are the reasons I would voice because they are strong. These reasons, are the very same reasons I decided to take on this work, as their pastor, 6 years ago. I made the choice and have grown and been blessed being apart of this church.

Would you consider coming along for the ride and choosing VBC?
