Psalms 122:1 “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.”
David had a desire to go to the house of God that desire led him to be glad to be there. Often time’s people will go to church begrudgingly, as if they are forced to be there. This type of church attendance leads to cold, dry and dead worship. So we make programs that interest the people and erect building that are beautiful and ornate in order to woo them to church. The average church seeks to entertain its members and guests in order to keep them happy. It becomes very easy to create a social atmosphere within the church, so we can connect and network. Is that what should make us glad to be in the house of the Lord?
The reason why I love Victory Baptist Church is NOT in its buildings or its programs. We don’t seek to entertain our members and guests in order to peak interest. The reason I love VBC is because of what David said in verse 9 of this Psalm, “Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good.” It’s not about the church alone, it’s about the Person who is the Head of the church, Jesus Christ.
Sure we have programs, and we seek to make our buildings look nice and we even have a great social atmosphere here BUT the reason why I, as well as many of our members love coming to church, is because of our relationship with Jesus Christ.
